The Importance of Cal-Mag in Your Garden.

While the “big 3” of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus often get much of the attention, both calcium and magnesium play large roles in plant health. Calcium provides strength and structure for your plants. Without it, you can get deficiencies and nutrient lock out – even stunted growth. You will see discoloration on leaves which may look like a deficiency of a primary nutrient, but it may be just lack of Cal-Mag. Magnesium deficiency can be a little easier to spot, identified by yellow leaves with green veins generally in older leaves. The availability, or lack thereof, of both of these elements can make or break your crop even though they are secondary nutrients.

When using reverse osmosis (RO) water, apply your Cal-Mag supplement at 300 PPM.

How Does Cal-Mag Benefit Yield?

A Cal-Mag supplement is necessary for healthy plant growth, photosynthesis and development. It is essential in root development, and aids in the absorption of other nutrients. Cal-Mag also activates a plant’s natural enzyme production, which is critical for breaking down nutrients. Just be careful not to use too much – you can create a toxicity from too much Cal-Mag. The bottom line is that without having all of the proper nutrients available, your plants will never be able to reach their full potential yield.

FAQ

Q: When do I use Cal-Mag?

A: You can and should use Cal-Mag from veg to harvest if necessary.

Q: Do I have to use Cal-Mag?
A: The short answer is no – tap water may contain just enough calcium and magnesium to support some growers’ plants needs. However, we do recommend the presence of Cal-Mag at 150 PPM, so make sure you have a PPM meter handy to measure your water.
Q: How much Cal-Mag do I use?

A: When using reverse osmosis (RO) water, use 300 PPM of Cal-Mag. For tap or well water, use about 150 PPM with every watering.

Cal-Mag Best Practices

Most people don’t know exactly what is in their tap or well water. For that reason, we recommend using a reverse osmosis (RO) system. When using an RO system you strip out everything from your water, including calcium and magnesium, which make up most of the PPM in your tap or well water. Being that you have stripped all of this out, we recommend using 300 PPM of a Cal-Mag supplement to re-introduce the elements back to your plants. We recommend using CALli-MAGic because of the low levels of nitrogen – too much nitrogen can cause a toxicity and stunt your plant growth and development.
