|ARNY:||We’re back with another installment of John in 60 Seconds where John has 60 seconds to answer our questions. Today’s topic is Avid. You ready John?|
|JOHN:||Let’s do this.|
|ARNY:||What is Avid?|
|JOHN:||Avid is a form of Abamectin to be precise. It’s a insecticide and miticide.|
|ARNY:||When would I use Avid?|
|JOHN:||You would generally use Avid at the first sign of any kind of pest.|
|ARNY:||How would I know if I even have a pest problem?|
|JOHN:||Well, the most common pest that people use Avid for would be spider mites but it does control a lot more than that. Leafminer control, whiteflies, aphids, thrips and a bunch of other things but as far as spider mites go, the first sign would be webbing. They actually create a little web around the plants that they’re on to protect themselves against outside elements.|
|ARNY:||All right, John, a little bonus for everybody, could you share with us a pro tip when using Avid?|
|JOHN:||My pro tip for using Avid would be to rotate it in with other pesticides. Some of these pesticides and some bugs actually will grow a tolerance to this pesticides so I would recommend definitely changing them out every other time or even every time to different pesticides.|
|ARNY:||You said different pesticides, do you mean I could mix Avid with another one or in conjunction with another one.|
|JOHN:||Oh no. You would never mix but you can definitely use them in conjunction so every 3 days, you would switch out to a different pesticide such as Floramite.|
|ARNY:||Got it, so Avid as a complimentary to the other pesticides?|
How Avid M0.15 EC Works
Avid contains 2 percent abamectin, a common nerve poison that’s used in various insecticides for professional use. It impacts an insect’s nervous system but does not kill the pest immediately. Instead, the active ingredient causes gradual paralysis and gives the pest time to transmit the poison back to the colony. Afterward, the pest infects other members before dying. Abamectin works by contact and ingestion and is less harmful to the environment, having a class IV rating on the General Use Pesticide scale.
